The Associate Technologist in the Forensics Lab is responsible for the analysis of exhibits and samples submitted as part of the Consumer Affairs consumer response program. The Associate Technologist is responsible for the laboratory work area, instrumentation and equipment needed to perform testing as assigned. Additional responsibilities include participating in confidential communication with in-house legal counsel as well as outside agencies (GMA, FDA, USDA, etc.). This role is also responsible for examination of both product and container issues utilizing the appropriate instrumentation and counsel of the appropriate SMEs. The Associate Technologist is an integral member of the Food Safety team and is responsible for contributing to the overall success and improvement activities needed to meet strategic objectives of the Quality organization which includes providing technical support to manufacturing plants and laboratories as required.


What you will do…

  • Provide quality and timely results on assigned assays for samples and exhibits submitted as part of Consumer Affairs consumer response program.
    • Analysis includes complete examination of consumer exhibits:
    • providing quick and accurate response by tracking exhibits,
    • analyzing exhibits,
    • writing reports,
    • providing confidential technical support to Quality, Legal, and manufacturing as required. 80%
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot all equipment and instrumentation associated with assigned assays and duties. Maintain a safe workplace environment. 5%
  • Uphold all appropriate methodology practices and SOP's. 5 %
  • Provide training and counsel to the Consumer Affairs special procedure team, Call Center staff, and Quality teams as required. 5%
  • Cross Train in the Product Evaluation laboratory. 5%
  • Consumer exhibit analysis requires improvised testing and examination, depending on each individual exhibit while handling multiple sample testing situations. This requires good time management and decision-making skills to prioritize work by sample type/need and to work through the back-log.
  • Due to the confidentiality of consumer exhibit investigations, the Associate Technologist must be proficient at technical writing and have sound communication skills. Communications to several individuals/groups including Legal, Quality, Product Development and Manufacturing require accurate and timely information that may include conclusions, proposed next steps and fact-based opinions.

What you bring to the table (must have) …

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, preferably Microbiology, Forensic Science, Biological Sciences, or Chemistry.
  • 2 years in related lab experience, for example, Forensic Science, Biological or Chemical.


It would be great to have…

  • Preferred experience in the evaluation of consumer related exhibits, tampering and processing related evaluations, and container analysis is a plus.
  • Ability to follow existing testing procedures as required.
  • Problem solving based on data interpretation and experience.
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Word and Excel. LIMS or Consumer database experience would be a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiar with Good Laboratory Practices.

Compensation and Benefits:

The target base salary range for this full-time, salaried position is between

$67,700-$97,300

Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation. In addition, we offer competitive health, dental, 401k and wellness benefits beginning on the first day of employment.
