Job summary

Mariner Wealth Advisors in New York seeks a tax associate to work with the tax team on personal, fiduciary, S-Corporation, partnership, private foundation and gift tax returns. The successful candidate will prepare returns, maintain client files, present timely deliverables and respond to IRS inquiries, while growing professionally through internal training and collaboration.

A Bachelor’s in Accounting with 1+ year experience and proficiency in MS Office and tax software is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • 1+ years of related tax experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and tax software.
  • Strong client-service orientation and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tax returns (personal, fiduciary, S-Corp, partnership, gift, etc.).
  • Prepare quarterly and annual tax projections and related work papers.
  • Maintain client files and get accurate data for billing and reporting.
  • Present complete, timely client deliverables.
  • Respond to IRS inquiries and research complex tax issues.
  • Adhere to firm quality control standards and participate in training.

Job description

As a tax associate, you will work directly with the tax team to create personal, Fiduciary, S-Corporation, partnership, private foundation and gift tax returns. The successful tax associate will be a tax enthusiast, thoughtful listener, have a strong team mentality, and be driven to grow professionally and personally.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare tax returns, quarterly and annual income tax projections, estimated tax vouchers, extension forms and all related work papers and financial statements

  • Maintain client paper files and electronic data files in a timely manner; compile quarterly asset values for billing, journals, transfers, invoicing, annuity fees, commission fees and collection consulting fees

  • Present complete, timely and accurate client deliverables in an efficient manner

  • Attend and participate in learning opportunities through associate meetings and internal resources made available through compliance, practice management, etc.

  • Respond to inquiries from the IRS and other taxing authorities, research technical matters for complex tax needs and updates to regulations

  • Compliance to the Firm’s quality control standards

  • Additional projects, furthering the service of clients as needed

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, Accounting

  • 1 + years of related experience

Skills and Knowledge
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, and Excel

  • Familiarity with tax software programs

  • Positive attitude toward client relations to provide exceptional, proactive client service

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain the necessary attention to detail

  • Highly organized with strong analytical skills, creative problem solving and strong research capabilities

  • Ability to work on a team while maintaining a high level of responsibility and accountability to individual projects and tasks

  • Able to manage conflicting priorities, deadline-based tasks and simultaneous projects

  • Clear communicator with strong interpersonal writing and presentation skills
