Job summary

Mariner Wealth Advisors is seeking a tax associate in Overland Park, Kansas, to work directly with the tax team on personal, fiduciary, S‑Corporation, partnership, private foundation and gift tax returns. You will prepare returns, support quarterly projections and related papers, and ensure timely, accurate client deliverables.

The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and at least 1 year of related experience, with proficient Excel and tax software skills and a client‑focused,

  • At least 1 year of related tax experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tax returns for personal, fiduciary, S‑Corporation, partnership, private foundation and gift tax needs.
  • Maintain client files and compile data for billing and financial statements.
  • Present complete, timely client deliverables and support the tax team in learning opportunities.
  • Respond to IRS inquiries and research tax matters to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Adhere to quality control standards and assist with additional client-related projects.

Job description

As a tax associate, you will work directly with the tax team to create personal, Fiduciary, S-Corporation, partnership, private foundation and gift tax returns. The successful tax associate will be a tax enthusiast, thoughtful listener, have a strong team mentality, and be driven to grow professionally and personally.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare tax returns, quarterly and annual income tax projections, estimated tax vouchers, extension forms and all related work papers and financial statements
  • Maintain client paper files and electronic data files in a timely manner; compile quarterly asset values for billing, journals, transfers, invoicing, annuity fees, commission fees and collection consulting fees
  • Present complete, timely and accurate client deliverables in an efficient manner
  • Attend and participate in learning opportunities through associate meetings and internal resources made available through compliance, practice management, etc.
  • Respond to inquiries from the IRS and other taxing authorities, research technical matters for complex tax needs and updates to regulations
  • Compliance to the Firm’s quality control standards
  • Additional projects, furthering the service of clients as needed
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, Accounting
  • 1 + years of related experience
Skills and Knowledge
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Familiarity with tax software programs
  • Positive attitude toward client relations to provide exceptional, proactive client service
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain the necessary attention to detail
  • Highly organized with strong analytical skills, creative problem solving and strong research capabilities
  • Ability to work on a team while maintaining a high level of responsibility and accountability to individual projects and tasks
  • Able to manage conflicting priorities, deadline-based tasks and simultaneous projects
  • Clear communicator with strong interpersonal writing and presentation skills
