Marx Okubo Associates, Inc. in Southern California is seeking an Associate-level Structural Engineer to join our team for projects across multifamily, office, retail, industrial, and hotel/hospitality sectors.

The role offers a hybrid schedule with two days in the office each week and travel as needed. The ideal candidate holds a CA PE, a Bachelor’s in civil/structural engineering, and at least five years of relevant experience, with strong knowledge of CBC/ASCE-7/ACI/AISC and proficiency in

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering.
• Licensed as a professional engineer (PE) in the state of California.
• Minimum five years of industry-related experience at a structural engineering consulting firm.
• Technical understanding of building types and lateral load-resisting systems.
• Knowledge of CBC, ASCE-7, ACI, and AISC.
• Ability to manage projects independently and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in Bluebeam and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical team member and small project lead for clients' commercial structures.
• Collaborate with clients, internal team, consultants, and site contacts, and understand the client’s project(s).
• Review and assess existing building construction and condition.
• Review and analyze construction documents including structural calculations, drawings, and specifications.
• Perform seismic risk and property condition assessments.
• Prepare and present detailed formal reports.
• Perform structural analysis and create details for small-scale repairs and seismic retrofit projects.
• Assist with forensic structural investigations by analysis of defects, failure, and collapse, and assess causation, timing, and code compliance.
