Job summary

Goldman Sachs is seeking an Associate Software Engineer in Core Engineering, New York, to deliver high‑impact risk platform software. You will work on distributed data processing, data visualization, and front-end UI tooling using Java, Python, Scala, Spark, SQL, and Tableau.

The role requires 3–5 years in risk technology within financial services and a solid foundation in CS concepts, SDLC, and multi-language development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline.
• 3-5 years’ experience working with risk technology teams in a large investment or retail bank, or a comparable financial institution.
• Experience in credit risk management functions and processes, knowledge of major regulatory deliverables for credit risk and expertise in related technology is required.
• Experience in software development, including a clear understanding of data structures, algorithms, software design and core programming concepts.
• Comfortable multi-tasking, managing multiple stakeholders and working as part of a team.
• Comfortable with working with multiple programming languages, including learning proprietary software coding when required.
• Technologies: Scala, Java, Python, Spark, Linux and shell scripting, TDD (JUnit), build tools (Maven/Gradle/Ant)
• Experience with one or more major relational / object databases.
• Experience in working with process scheduling platforms like Apache Airflow.
• Should be ready to work in GS proprietary technology like Slang/SECDB
• An understanding of compute resources and the ability to interpret performance metrics.

Responsibilities

• Ensure accuracy and timeliness in risk metric delivery.
• Develop and tune software across Java, Python, Scala and Spark.
• Build internal and external reporting using SQL and Tableau.
• Collaborate with global engineers to adopt common tools and platforms.
• Oversee SDLC tasks including design reviews and production migrations.
