Job summary

Astrion is seeking an Associate Senior Chemist to support the LASSO II contract at Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, FL. The role involves assisting the Senior Chemist with 1st/2nd shift operations, coordinating laboratory staff and ensuring safety and quality compliance.

The position requires a Bachelor’s in Chemistry with 6+ years in lab operations, including supervisory experience, and strong knowledge of GC, IR, UV, AAS instruments and related solvents/aviation fuels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry; advanced degree preferred.
• Six or more years of lab experience with at least two in supervision.
• Strong knowledge of GC, IR, UV and AAS instruments.
• Experience handling solvents and aviation fuels.

Responsibilities

• Supervise 1st/2nd shift chemical analyses.
• Assign staff to maximize resource use.
• Plan analytical procedures for complex analyses.
• Review laboratory methods for accuracy.
• Prepare reports, test plans, and procedures.
• Support special investigations for NASA/contractors.
• Oversee updates to chemical analysis manual.
• Substitute for Senior Chemist when needed.
• Participate in safety programs and audits.
• Maintain safe, orderly laboratory.
• Ensure compliance with company systems.
• Plan budgeting for equipment.
