Job description

SeqMatic is a Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and omics services provider based in the San Francisco South Bay Area. The company was founded in 2012 by former Illumina R&D scientists who are experts in the NGS workflow and related bioinformatics.

We specialize in Illumina NGS platforms, bulk DNA/RNA-seq, Single-cell RNA, as well as custom sequencing services with fast turnaround times. Our lab is CLIA / CAP certified. We recently expanded our capabilities beyond RUO to support clinical trials for our Clients, in addition to incorporating novel technologies such as Spatial Transcriptomics, Epigenetics, Proteomics and Histopathology.

Role Overview

We are looking for a detail-oriented and hands-on Scientist to support and expand our Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) operations. This role will be instrumental in onboarding new services, developing and optimizing workflows, and supporting day-to-day NGS laboratory activities, particularly in library preparation.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, technically strong in NGS methods, and excited to drive process improvements in a dynamic lab environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the onboarding of new NGS service offerings, including workflow design, validation, and implementation
  • Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot NGS library preparation protocols across multiple platforms and applications
  • Execute daily NGS lab operations, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and high-quality outputs
  • Evaluate and improve existing workflows to enhance efficiency, scalability, and turnaround time
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with bioinformatics, operations, and quality teams to ensure seamless service delivery
  • Document SOPs, validation reports, and process updates in compliance with quality standards
  • Train and mentor lab staff on new workflows and best practices
Qualifications
Required:
  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Molecular Biology, Genomics, Biotechnology, or related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in an NGS laboratory environment
  • Strong expertise in NGS library preparation techniques (e.g., WGS, RNA-seq, targeted panels, etc.)
  • Experience in workflow optimization, assay development, or process improvement
  • Familiarity with sequencing platforms (e.g., Illumina, PacBio, Oxford Nanopore)
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent documentation and communication abilities
Preferred:
  • Experience on-boarding new assays or services in a clinical or commercial lab setting
  • Knowledge of quality systems (CLIA, CAP, GLP, or similar)
  • Exposure to automation platforms for library preparation
  • Basic understanding of NGS bioinformatic analysis workflows

The pay range for this role is:

90,000 - 100,000 USD per year (Fremont Blvd)
