Job summary

Indium Corporation in Clinton, NY is seeking an Associate Scientist II to lead material preparation, testing, and characterization for product development, under supervision.

The role includes designing DOEs, modifying formulations, and ensuring quality and safety in lab practices, with opportunities to present findings and collaborate with the team. Work hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm at 34 Robinson Rd, Clinton, NY.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a technical discipline (chemistry, metallurgy, material science, or engineering) with 2 years of related experience, or a bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong data-processing computer skills.
• Experience in safety, quality assurance, and best practices in engineering and laboratory.
• Knowledge of SPC and process variation reduction in manufacturing.
• Hands-on machine operation and testing experience.
• Ability to read and understand product design and fabrication documentation.
• Ability to document design changes for specifications per standards.
• Must provide own transportation for local/day travel between Indium Corporation facilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead material preparation, testing, and characterization under supervision
• Design and implement DOEs for upgraded performance with supervisor assistance
• Modify formulation and material processing for improved performance
• Devise and manufacture minor material modifications for upgrades
• Understand customer needs by communicating with customers
• Perform testing of material properties (mechanical, electrical, thermal) per standards
• Follow industry practices for soldering, sintering, SMT, packaging, and thermal interfaces
• Design new test vehicles and methodologies for material development
• Collect, process, and interpret material testing data
• Train staff on equipment and standard testing
• Document testing procedures for materials and processes
• Support development of manufacturing processes for materials
• Optimize processing conditions to enhance material performance
• Present research findings internally
• Ensure lab compliance and environmental requirements
• Perform other duties as assigned
