Job summary

Amentum in Richmond, CA is actively seeking applicants for an Associate Scientist 1. The role involves performing molecular biology techniques including DNA extraction and real-time PCR to identify pathogenic agents, under SOPs and GLP compliance.

The position requires handling biosafety procedures (BSL-2/BSL-3), PPE, and maintaining CoC, with opportunities to contribute to QA/QC and data analysis across multiple lab areas. Must be able to obtain DHS suitability clearance.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in microbiology, molecular biology, or related course work in biological sciences, and at least one (1) year of laboratory bench experience outside of an academic environment, utilizing PCR, aseptic techniques, and biological assays.
• Biological Safety Level (BSL)-3 experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Handling, receipt, and processing of daily samples potentially containing biological threat agents.
• Performing DNA extraction and real-time PCR to identify and characterize pathogenic agents.
• Decontamination of workspaces and equipment according to SOPs and safety guidelines.
• Maintaining chain-of-custody (CoC) and data entry in lab systems.
• Preparing reagents and samples and ensuring GLP compliance.
• Quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) testing and documentation.
