Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Safety Specialist to help maintain a safe work environment. You will conduct inspections, document incidents, coordinate safety programs and training, and ensure compliance with OSHA rules.

You will report concerns to safety management and assist with onboarding new employees. The role involves maintaining safety documentation, participating in investigations, and contributing to continual safety improvements across sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Safety, Health or Environmental Applied Sciences or related discipline.
• 1+ years of relevant experience.
• CPR and First Aid; OSHA 500/CHST/ASP preferred.
• OSHA 10hr/30hr/40hr training preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Solid understanding of health and safety management systems and OSHA standards.

Job description

This role supports a safe work environment by conducting inspections, documenting incidents, and coordinating safety programs and training.

• Tours and inspects smaller, less complex job sites with guidance to ensure compliance with company, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
• Reports concerns to safety management.
• Ensures health and safety standards are met by coordinating, promoting and conducting various programs and activities related to the safety management system.
• Documents safety inspections, citing dangerous areas/procedures and recommending corrective procedures.
• Provides recommendations for correcting non-compliance issues. Ensures cited issues are corrected within designated timeframe.
• Maintains all site required documentation related to safety issues, including accident reports, inspection reports and training logs. Reviews daily job hazard logs and takes action as required.
• Assists with providing emergency response to employees as needed. Participates in and documents information for the investigation of accidents and injuries and submits data to regulatory agencies as required.
• Assists with onboarding new employees, including orientation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health or Environmental Applied Sciences or related discipline, or equivalent education, training and/or experience
• 1+years of relevant experience
• CPR and First Aid, OSHA 500/CHST/ASP certification preferred
• OSHA 10hr, OSHA 30hr, OSHA 40hr training preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): List no more than six (6) essential KSAs, including system-relevant technical skills.
• Solid working knowledge of health and safety management systems; OSHA CFR 1926 standards or the state construction safety regulations
• Solid verbal and written communication skills
• Solid customer service and organizational skills
• Solid computer skills-experience with Microsoft Office suite and ability to access OSHA information via the internet
