Job summary

Belkin Burden Goldman LLP in New York City seeks an Administrative Law or Landlord/Tenant Attorney with deep experience in rent regulation and real estate administrative agency matters.

Candidates should have 3+ years in real estate Administrative or Landlord/Tenant Law, NY Bar in good standing, and be prepared to litigate before DHCR, NYC Commission on Human Rights, and related bodies; marketing and client development are encouraged.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school.
  • Active New York State Bar license in good standing.
  • Must have at least 3+ years of real estate Administrative or Landlord/Tenant Law experience.
  • Deep knowledge of Rent Stabilization Law and Code.
  • Fair Housing and NYC Human Rights Law knowledge is a plus.
  • Understanding of deregulation due to substantial rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

  • Research and draft legal documents, including Art 78, agency answers and replies.
  • Perform Administrative due diligence and advise on Rent Stabilization Law and related regulations.
  • Litigate Administrative Law cases before DHCR, NYC Commission on Human Rights, NYS Division on Human Rights, OATH, and Supreme Courts.
  • Participate in marketing efforts, including drafting publications.
  • Adhere to firm policies and procedures.
  • Handle additional duties as assigned.

We are currently looking for a highly motivated and intelligent Administrative Law or Landlord/Tenant Attorney who is well-versed in rent regulation, landlord/tenant disputes, or other real estate administrative agency law matters. The ideal candidate will have experience in practicing and litigating Administrative Law cases before DHCR, the NYS Division of Human Rights, the NYC Commission on Human Rights, and the Supreme Courts. They should be adept at defending against complex allegations of rent overcharge, succession, harassment, and discrimination. Additionally, they should be knowledgeable about deregulation due to substantial rehabilitation. Knowledge of affordable housing issues and voucher programs is a plus.

They should also have a desire to participate in marketing activities and be able to develop deep relationships with prospective and active clients.

What You’ll Do

  • Research and draft legal documents, including Art 78, agency answers and replies, due diligence reviews.
  • Perform Administrative due diligence and provide advice on with the Rent Stabilization Law and Code and Rent and Eviction Regulations.
  • Litigate Administrative Law cases before DHCR, the NYC Commission on Human Rights, NYS Division on Human Rights, OATH, and the Supreme Courts.
  • Participate in marketing efforts, including drafting publications.
  • Adhere to all of the Firm’s policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned on an as needed basis.

What We’re Looking For

  • High degree of academic achievement with a law degree from an accredited U.S. law school.
  • Active New York State Bar license and in good standing.
  • Must have at least 3+ years of real estate Administrative or Landlord/Tenant Law experience.
  • Must have deep knowledge of Rent Stabilization Law and Code.
  • Knowledge of handling Fair Housing and NYC Human Rights Law is a plus.
  • Knowledge about deregulation due to substantial rehabilitation.
  • Capable of independently handling affordable housing matters with knowledge of voucher programs is a plus.
  • Strong negotiating skills, excellent analytical and research skills.
  • Portable book of business a plus, but not required.
  • Interest in working with a collaborative team and flexible to handle all assigned tasks.
  • Computer savvy with excellent knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization skills, and takes enormous pride in their work.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and writing skills to communicate with a diverse group of attorneys and staff.
  • Ability to independently multitask, prioritize and manage time effectively.
