Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Radiological Controls Technician (RCT) at our site in Niskayuna, NY to support the radiological safety operations critical to our mission. The RCT plays a pivotal role in maintaining safe operating conditions, implementing radiological control procedures, and ensuring regulatory and procedural compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor, survey, and assess work areas for radiological hazards.
  • Perform contamination control, decontamination operations, and airborne radioactivity sampling.
  • Ensure compliance with radiological controls, NNPP guidance, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Provide oversight and guidance on radiological safety practices to promote risk minimization.
  • Conduct radiation surveys, maintain accurate records, and document and report findings.
  • Support employee training efforts around radiological safety and compliance procedures.
  • Respond to radiological events or emergencies following established protocols.
  • Operate and maintain radiation detection and monitoring equipment.
Required Knowledge And Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or
  • High school diploma or equivalent and qualification as a Naval Nuclear Propulsion Operator (or commercial nuclear equivalent) and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or
  • High school diploma and RCTQS qualified; or
  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university or Journeyman's Papers in a related field.
Preferred Skills
  • Associate degree or higher in Radiological Technology, Health Physics, or a science related field.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Pay Range

$56,900.00 - $87,100.00 annually

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
