Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking an Associate R&D Project Leader to join our R&D Project Management team in Ridgefield, CT. This role is responsible for the timely and professional execution of assigned drug development projects. With support and mentorship from D&D Leads and/or Unit Heads Project Management, this individual leads global multi-disciplinary teams for early-stage development projects, with responsibility for planning, steering, and coordination of all nonclinical development and manufacturing activities supporting preclinical and clinical development from late lead optimization through to Proof of Clinical Principle (PoCP). Clear and transparent communication towards senior management in English, both in writing and presentations, is required.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Leadership of global Drug & Device (R&D) project teams for new drugs, indications, formulations, and combinations.
  • Steering all nonclinical development activities (CMC, pharmacological, toxicological, pharmacokinetic, metabolism) and enabling drug development activities, ensuring drug supply for clinical studies.
  • Creation and maintenance of project plans, including budget information, covering all relevant work packages and milestones.
  • Collaborating with Senior R&D PLs and subject matter experts to develop an in-depth understanding of the drug development process.
  • Representing all R&D aspects in international Asset Teams for drug development.
  • Operational responsibility for transferring projects from Research to Development, including elaboration of nonclinical development concepts and development plans.
  • Regular, transparent presentation of project status, progress, and issues at steering committees, with clear communication of risks, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Operational responsibility for CMC development strategies.
Requirements
  • Doctoral Degree (PhD, MD, PharmD) with 3+ years of experience or Master’s degree with 5+ years in drug development or pharmaceutical industry, or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of leadership experience in project or team leadership within a matrix environment.
  • Ability to lead R&D teams collaboratively across disciplines.
  • High self-motivation, focus on key aspects, and solid knowledge in natural or life sciences.
  • Sense of urgency, problem-solving skills, ownership, commitment, and excellent communication skills.
  • Onsite/Flex*: Minimum of 2-3 days onsite per week; remote work norms to be clarified during the interview.
Compensation Data

Base salary typically ranges from $140,000 to $222,000 USD, possibly with additional bonuses or compensation elements. For benefits details, please click here.
