The Leonardo DRS Naval Electronics business provides leading naval computing infrastructure, network and data distribution and middleware enterprise services, as well as world-class manufacturing and support capabilities.

Job Location/Schedule

This position will work in a hybrid environment (typically 2-3 days per week onsite) based out of our Display, Processing, and Networking Center of Excellence located in Johnstown, PA (relocation assistance may be available.)

Job Summary

DRS Naval Electronics is looking for a Project Engineer to lead engineering project execution and proposals. The PE will be the Engineering lead on development, production, or services programs which includes all activities for the entirety of program lifecycle.

Job Responsibilities

In this role, the candidate will be responsible for assigned technical solutions, efficient execution, and task completion on time and within budget. Ability to work independently while leading others is a key capability needed for this role.

  • Responsible for leading the Engineering execution of cross-functional teams. The PE is the lead technical role on programs as the integration point for the Program Management Office.
  • Overall Project Engineer roles and responsibilities include managing performance to technical/cost/schedule from the Engineering function on programs, Engineering scope management, customer technical relationships/communication, and partnering with functional peers to ensure flawless execution on programs.
  • Owns and is accountable for the Technical Baseline on programs. The Technical Baseline includes but is not limited to: Requirements (internal and external), Specifications, Drawings, Test Plans and Procedures required to meet technical, quality, and compliance requirements of the contract
  • Responsible to support the Program Office and develop relationships with customer technical community in support of program/satisfying program requirements.
  • Manage customer technical data package and employ rigorous Change Management controls.
  • Identify obsolescence issues and develop resolution plans to maintain customer delivery dates and continued production deadlines.
  • Preparing, scheduling, coordinating, monitoring, and managing assigned engineering projects.
  • Review customer specifications and requirements, and under direction develops designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable.
  • Provide budget, cost, and schedule input for project’s assignments.
  • Create procedures, plans, and schedules.
  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems, and services.
  • Drive the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements.
  • Risk Management: Develop and execute plans to retire project and technical risks.
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required.
  • Participates in preparation of proposals.
  • Provide technical knowledge and assistance to cross functional team members.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 5 years’ experience related to Project Engineering skillsets and must have demonstrated success in similar technical environments.
  • Self-starting, self-directed candidate with excellent oral and written communication skills. Capable of achieving project objectives and able to interface with various levels of internal team members, management, program sponsors, sub-contractors and customers.
  • Team building and collaboration
  • Ability to travel – Potential travel up to 20%.
  • The following skills are desired:
    • Familiarity with lean manufacturing techniques or continuous improvement is a plus
    • Familiarity with requirements management processes and tools (e.g., Cameo, DOORS)
    • Strong Configuration Management approach for customer Technical Data Packages
    • Ability to troubleshoot and plan approach to resolution of failures from environmental qualification and factory acceptance testing
    • Experience with multiple engineering disciplines (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Safety, Software)
    • Project management and Project skills (e.g., MS Project)
    • Resource Allocation & Management
    • Cost Account Management (CAM)
    • Earn Value Management (EVM)
    • Advanced MS Office skills
    • Familiarity with Agile Development methodologies
    • Dealing with ambiguity - adapting to uncertainty, making complex decisions, and remaining flexible and adaptable to change
    • Familiarity with DoD Environmental Military Standards and Specifications

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
