Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking an Associate Project Archaeologist for the Rocky Mountain Plains subregion. Position will be based out of the Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN office or the Bismarck, ND office, with ~30% field travel.

Under supervision of PM or Lead Archaeologist, you’ll assist on all project phases from desktop reviews to agency deliverables and collaborate in a team-driven environment. Strong problem-solving and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field.
• Meets requirements to be Archaeological Principal Investigator in North Dakota.
• Experience with Midwest archaeology and CRM projects.

Responsibilities

• Assist project managers on budgeting, scheduling, fieldwork, and reporting.
• Conduct background research for archaeological studies.
• Organize preliminary research before fieldwork and ensure resources.
• Coordinate with agencies, subconsultants, crews, and monitors.
• Supervise fieldwork including survey, testing, and data recovery.
• Maintain regular communication with project managers on budgets and timelines.
• Improve procedures and resolve problems efficiently.
• Uphold scientific ethics and QA/QC of documents.
