Description

Join the University of Maine as a full-time, academic-year, tenure-track, Associate to Full Professor. The initial appointment for this position will be to serve as the PI on an existing Department of Education Grant to launch New England’s first PhD program in Nursing. The successful candidate will provide academic leadership for the development and implementation of the program. The faculty member will ensure the quality and alignment of the PhD curriculum, support faculty teaching within the program, recruit and mentor doctoral students, and develop partnerships with healthcare organizations and institutions of higher education. The position will also advance the School of Nursing’s research mission through an active program of scholarship, grant development, research dissemination, and doctoral-student mentorship. At the conclusion of the DoEd grant, the teaching, research, and administrative responsibilities will be negotiated based on ongoing need.

The successful candidate may reside anywhere in Maine. The position requires regular remote engagement and attendance at designated on-campus activities, including commencement, PhD immersion experiences, and other required meetings or program events. Travel throughout Maine and, when necessary, the broader region will be required for student recruitment, partnership development, and meetings with prospective students, healthcare organizations, and institutions of higher education. University-approved workspace will be provided near the employee’s primary residence, subject to institutional policies and availability.

Qualifications
  • Earned PhD in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Active, unrestricted registered nurse license in the State of Maine.
  • Record of peer-reviewed scholarly publications and professional presentations commensurate with appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor.
  • Demonstrated record of developing and sustaining an independent program of research following completion of the PhD.
  • Experience mentoring PhD students through the dissertation process, including research development, proposal preparation, study implementation, scholarly writing, and dissertation completion.
  • Demonstrated success pursuing or securing internal or external research funding. Knowledge of doctoral nursing education, curriculum development, program evaluation, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Evidence of effective academic leadership and collaboration with faculty, students, healthcare organizations, and institutional partners.
  • Strong written, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching, research, student mentorship, and academic service.
