An innovative media organization is seeking an ambitious associate producer to join its podcast team. This six-month full-time temporary role involves editing longform interviews and collaborating with a high-profile host and editorial team. The Atlantic is looking for an ambitious associate producer with sharp editorial judgment to join The Atlantic’s podcast team in a temporary six-month role, supporting the second season of the Autocracy in America podcast . We’re looking for a person who has a passion for creating intellectually rigorous and sonically compelling audio journalism. The right candidate will be skilled at editing longform interviews and have a deep interest in stories that speak to democracy and politics in America.
You’ll work closely with a high-profile host, an editor, an engineer, and collaborate with others from the podcast team and the larger newsroom. The role will at times include night, early-morning, and weekend work.
Responsibilities include:
Manage production calendar for tapings and recordings
Work with the host and editor to think through the arc of conversations for each episode in both pre- and post-production.
Edit interviews for clarity, and incorporate notes from the editor as well as from the fact checking and legal teams
Work with the podcast team, and with the larger editorial team as needed, to help shepherd episodes, show transcripts, and related materials through the production process, from conception to publication
Uphold standards of editorial integrity and work to ensure impact of the podcast on all available channels
Qualifications of the ideal candidate:
At least 2 years of experience editing audio with ProTools
Strong studio production techniques
Impeccable judgment and keen understanding of journalistic ethics
A commitment to bringing voices with diverse backgrounds and worldviews to our podcast
Experience in scripting, pre-interviewing, and host collaboration
Excellence at meeting deadlines and working independently
A collaborative approach to creation and an independent work ethic
Kindness, curiosity, and a direct but thoughtful approach to giving feedback
Experience editing video is a plus
This is a six month full-time temporary position and is based in New York City.
Annualized salary minimum $77,000; Annualized salary maximum $80,000
