IN2-AV has been retained by a leading independent technology engineering consultancy to find an accomplished Associate Principal to lead their security engineering initiatives. This mid-level leadership role is designed for a strong engineer ready to guide multi-discipline projects with a specific focus on complex security systems, from initial programming through final closeout.

If you are a professional engineer with a P.E. license (which is heavily favored for this position), hold 6+ years of AEC experience, and demonstrate deep capability in Security, Physical Security, or Electronic Security, this is your opportunity. You will leverage strong engineering judgment to manage scope, schedule, and budget, cultivate client relationships, and strengthen security discipline capability within the firm.

1. Strategic Project Leadership

You will lead small- to mid-scale, multi-discipline projects with growing independence. You will clarify project requirements, coordinate complex security designs, and ensure all deliverables meet rigorous standards for quality and constructability. You will apply solid engineering judgment to surface risks early, maintain project alignment, and strengthen client trust through clear, reliable communication.

2. Mentorship & Discipline Growth

You will serve as a key resource for the engineering team, mentoring Designers and Associates through hands-on guidance, technical reviews, and feedback. By reinforcing disciplined design and documentation practices, you directly strengthen the security discipline capability across the firm.

3. System Innovation & Best Practices

You will actively strengthen the consultancy’s operational system by contributing technical narratives, documenting client-specific nuances, and improving internal standards and workflows. Leveraging tools like GitHub, you will identify workflow gaps and submit targeted Pull Requests to enhance delivery consistency. Externally, you will begin developing credibility through thought-leadership activities such as white papers, blogs, and presentations.

• Risk Management: Identifying risks early, resolving discipline conflicts, and supporting robust cross-discipline coordination.
• Documentation: Maintaining disciplined documentation across specifications, drawings, calculations, and decision logs.
• Client Management: Documenting decisions and keeping teams aligned, communicating clearly with clients and design partners.
• Mentorship: Accelerating the growth of others by setting expectations, providing clear direction, and reinforcing high-quality work.

Qualifications We’re Looking For:

Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred) or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of experience in AEC or related professional services, with demonstrated discipline capability specifically in Security, Physical Security, or Electronic Security.
• Proven ability to lead discipline portions of mid- to large-size projects, supporting coordination, and providing guidance to engineering staff.
• Solid understanding of project delivery workflows, client expectations, documentation standards, and cross-discipline coordination.

Technical Skills:

• Strong proficiency in Autodesk (AutoCAD, Revit), Bluebeam Studio, Microsoft 365, and GitHub.

Favored and Preferred Certifications:

• P.E. (Professional Engineer license) - Heavily Favored.
• PSP/CPP (Security) - Preferred.
• CDT - Preferred.
• EIT.
• PMP.
• Hybrid Role: Approximately 75% remote/office work, with 25% client site presence.
• Regular computer and desk work, reading, writing, and communication; site visits requiring standing/walking, navigating construction areas, and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds.
