Job summary

WSP is seeking an Associate Plumbing Engineer for our Denver, CO office to contribute to building projects across commercial, higher education, hospitality, and other facilities. This role offers growth through collaboration with experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural, Plumbing Engineering or closely related field.
  • 1–3 years of plumbing engineering experience on building systems projects.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Familiarity with plumbing design principles, codes, and standards.
  • Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of construction documents and design coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in design and documentation of plumbing systems for building projects.
  • Perform calculations, sizing, and system evaluations under senior engineer guidance.
  • Develop plumbing layouts, riser diagrams, schedules, specs, and construction docs.
  • Coordinate plumbing with mechanical, electrical, fire protection, structural, and architectural disciplines.
  • Support project development from concept through construction administration.
  • Participate in site visits, field investigations, and condition assessments.
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals during construction.
  • Apply codes and standards to plumbing system designs.
  • Support QA/QC reviews for accurate, coordinated deliverables.
  • Use Revit and other tools to develop BIM and docs.
  • Contribute to sustainable, energy-conscious design aligned with Future Ready initiatives.

Your Impact

As an Associate Plumbing Engineer, you will contribute to the successful delivery of building systems projects by supporting engineering design efforts and collaborating with project teams throughout all phases of design and construction.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the design and documentation of plumbing systems for building projects, including domestic water, sanitary, storm, natural gas, and specialty piping systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations, equipment sizing, and system evaluations under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Develop plumbing layouts, riser diagrams, schedules, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Coordinate plumbing designs with mechanical, electrical, fire protection, structural, and architectural disciplines.
  • Support project development from concept through construction administration.
  • Participate in site visits, field investigations, and existing condition assessments.
  • Assist with reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals during construction.
  • Apply applicable codes, standards, and regulations to plumbing system designs.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control reviews to help ensure accurate and coordinated project deliverables.
  • Utilize Revit and other design tools to develop building information models and engineering documentation.
  • Contribute to sustainable and energy-conscious design solutions aligned with WSP's Future Ready® initiatives.
  • Remain current with emerging technologies, codes, and industry best practices.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Plumbing Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • 1-3 years of relevant plumbing engineering experience supporting building systems projects.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Familiarity with plumbing design principles, codes, and standards.
  • Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of construction documents, engineering calculations, and design coordination processes.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet project deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, higher education, or mixed-use buildings.
  • Familiarity with International Plumbing Code (IPC), Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), and applicable Colorado codes.
  • Experience with BIM coordination and Revit-based project delivery.
  • LEED accreditation or interest in sustainable building design.
  • Previous internship or consulting engineering experience within the AEC industry.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $79,300 - $109,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
