Job summary

The City of Tumwater invites applications for an Associate Planner to join the Long Range Planning team. You will help shape Tumwater's growth by conducting research, preparing staff reports, and coordinating planning projects with City staff and regional partners.

Ideal candidates bring a bachelor’s degree in planning or related field and 1–3 years of professional experience, with strong GIS and analytical abilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, geography, environmental studies, or closely related field, or equivalent experience.
• 1–3 years of professional planning experience in public or private sector.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage long-range planning projects from initiation through adoption.
• Conduct research and analysis on land use, zoning, housing, transportation, and demographics.
• Prepare staff reports, policy analyses, and planning studies.
• Coordinate public outreach and support Planning Commission and City Council processes.
• Assist permitting with development reviews and regulatory compliance.
