Confidential in Pittsburgh is seeking an Associate Mortgage Underwriter to join our mortgage operations team. The role focuses on reviewing loan documentation, analyzing borrower qualifications, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance with investor and agency guidelines.

You will work with Loan Officers, Processors, and other underwriters to clear conditions, maintain turnaround times, and stay current on mortgage lending policies.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience in mortgage underwriting or loan processing with underwriting exposure.
• Strong understanding of residential mortgage lending and loan documentation.
• Experience reviewing income, assets, tax returns, credit reports, and financial statements.
• Knowledge of Conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA loan products.
• Familiarity with Automated Underwriting Systems (DU/LP).
• Understanding of agency and investor guidelines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple loan files in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Review residential mortgage loan files for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
• Analyze borrower income, assets, credit history, liabilities, and employment documentation.
• Evaluate loan applications against underwriting guidelines and eligibility requirements.
• Support underwriting decisions by identifying risk factors and documentation deficiencies.
• Review and clear underwriting conditions as required.
• Work closely with Loan Officers, Processors, Underwriters, and Closers throughout the loan lifecycle.
• Ensure files meet Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and investor requirements.
• Communicate loan requirements and outstanding conditions to internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain target turnaround times while ensuring quality and accuracy.
• Stay current on mortgage regulations, lending policies, and industry guidelines.
