Job description

Northwell Health’s Division of Infectious Disease is seeking an Internal Medicine Physician to join our growing HIV Program as Associate Medical Director of the HIV Service Line Program.

In this role, the Internal Medicine Physician/ HIV Specialist will be responsible for providing comprehensive HIV and sexual health care and prevention to a diverse patient population, managing common and complex diseases, collaborating with the Medical Director to develop, implement, and oversee clinical services, policies, and procedures coordinated across multiple HIV/Sexual Health centers within the health system; obtain grant funding to expand and maintain comprehensive care and prevention for persons with or at risk for HIV and STIs; conduct research; participate in clinician training; and take a leadership role in Quality Improvement, program evaluation, innovation and initiatives.

The ideal candidate is a mid-career clinician with extensive experience managing HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Treatment and Prevention and an interest/experience in program management, grant writing, clinical trials, and teaching. The Associate Medical Director will assist the Medical Director in the oversight of the HIV Service Line Program which provides HIV treatment and prevention across multiple sites on Long Island and the New York metropolitan area. Activities will include:

  1. Direct provision of care to a panel of persons living with HIV or using PrEP;
  2. Provision of status-neutral, sex-positive Sexual Health care;
  3. Support grant writing and identification of funding support for clinical care services;
  4. Serve in a leadership role in continuous quality improvement program;
  5. Serve as an investigator in clinical trials;
  6. Provide training to clinicians, support staff and the public;
  7. Provide clinical direction of comprehensive, multidisciplinary care program with community outreach;
  8. Participate in program growth and promotion;
  9. Oversee and manage numerous grant-funded projects;
  10. Provide clinical oversight of specialty pharmacy residency;
  11. Coordinate HIV services across the Northwell Health System.

The position offers a diverse and dynamic opportunity for growth and advancement in a well-established and collaborative, multidisciplinary care and administrative team. Care is delivered with a core clinical team of RN Case Managers and Social workers for each patient and support from a Pharmacist (collaborative practice arrangement), Health Educators, GYN, Peers, Outreach Workers, Case Managers, Psychiatrists/Therapists, neuropsychologists, and administrative team.
