Job description

The Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center invites applications for a full-time faculty member to serve as an Associate Medical Director of the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory.

The Associate Medical Director will assist the Medical Director in the overall management of the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics laboratory. They will contribute to the lab's Quality Assurance program, assist in compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, help to revise and update current standard operating procedures, and design appropriate validation studies as necessary. They will work closely with Medical Director and technical staff to design, implement, and evaluate all technical processes that involve the laboratory. Clinical service responsibilities will include assisting the director in reviewing and approving all types of histocompatibility and diagnostic testing. As the laboratory provides 24/7 service to the Vanderbilt Transplant Center, the Associate Medical Director will share on‑call responsibilities, including consults for virtual crossmatching, and technical and interpretation questions, as needed. Participation in the training of laboratory personnel, residents, and fellows from the pathology and transplant departments is one of the fundamental responsibilities of this position. The successful candidate will also participate in clinical and/or translational research efforts.

They will either possess an HLA Laboratory Director Certification from the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI) or be eligible for certification at time of hire. They will have experience in histocompatibility testing, transplant immunology and immunogenetics, and be able to provide clinical laboratory support for solid organ and stem cell transplantation recipients and donors. Salary and rank will be based on training and experience.
