Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer to join the Pump Stations and Pipelines team across multiple offices in Tucson, AZ; Lakewood, CO; Tempe, AZ; or Houston, TX. The role focuses on hydraulic, mechanical, and pipeline systems for mining, industrial, and infrastructure projects.

Ideal candidates have a background in pipeline design, hydraulic modeling, and related software; strong analytical and communication skills; and a drive to grow within a multidisciplinary consulting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Familiarity with fluid mechanics and pipeline engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with pipe sizing, pressure loss calculations, pump selection evaluations, and hydraulic grade line assessments.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic modeling software (AFT Fathom, AFT Impulse, KYPIPE or similar).
  • Familiarity with pipeline stress analysis software (CAESAR II, AutoPIPE).
  • Understanding of piping systems, pumps, valves, and slurry transport systems.
  • Experience preparing technical documents (PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets).
  • Strong analytical mindset and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with collecting and analyzing engineering data from site investigations and design drawings.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and analyses for water, slurry, and process systems.
  • Develop and review hydraulic models, pump station designs, and pipeline alignments.
  • Support selection of pipelines, pumps, valves, and mechanical equipment.
  • Prepare design criteria, specifications, datasheets, and piping schedules.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for project execution.
  • Write technical reports summarizing analyses, findings, and recommendations.
  • Support risk identification, cost estimates, and bid evaluations.
  • Assist with field investigations, commissioning, and construction support.
  • Assist with proposal and scope development for business growth.
