Job summary

WSP is seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer to join our Pump Stations and Pipelines team in Tucson, AZ; Tempe, AZ; Lakewood, CO; or Houston, TX. You will support hydraulic, mechanical, and pipeline designs for mining, industrial, and infrastructure projects.

The candidate will develop hydraulic models, perform pipe sizing and pump evaluations, and prepare technical deliverables such as PFDs and P&IDs, while coordinating with multiple disciplines to ensure quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 1–3 years of post-education experience.
• Familiarity with fluid mechanics and pipeline engineering fundamentals.
• Experience with pipe sizing, pressure loss, and pump selection evaluations.
• Experience with hydraulic modeling software (AFT Fathom, AFT Impulse, KYPIPE).
• Familiarity with CAESAR II, AutoPIPE, or equivalent for piping analysis.
• Knowledge of multidisciplinary project delivery and engineering documentation.
• Strong analytical mindset and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Collect, compile, and analyze engineering data from site investigations and reports.
• Perform hydraulic calculations for water, slurry, and process systems.
• Develop and review hydraulic models, pump stations, and pipeline layouts.
• Assist with equipment selection and piping design for mining and industrial facilities.
• Prepare design criteria, specifications, datasheets, and PFDs/P&IDs.
• Support risk assessment, cost estimates, and engineering studies.
• Coordinate with other disciplines to support project execution.
• Produce technical reports and deliverables meeting industry standards.
