Job summary

Teton County is seeking a Planning professional to perform technical work in professional planning for the Planning and Building Services Department. You will review planning and development applications, building permits, and verify compliance with the County Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Regulations.

Responsibilities include preparing staff reports for public hearings, utilizing GIS for land use analysis, and coordinating with state and federal agencies as applicable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in planning related fields; Master's preferred.

  • Support County staff-public interactions with courteous, confidential service; perform other duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, or related field
Master's Degree in related field preferred

Job description

Performs technical work in professional planning for the Planning and Building Services Department; reviews planning and development applications and proposals, and building permits, verifies compliance with County Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Regulations, County policies and procedures, and coordinates with appropriate State and/or Federal agencies as applicable.

  • Serves as the initial point of contact for customer service; communicates with clients regarding general land development and regulatory inquiries regarding the Land Development Regulations.
  • Reviews planning and development applications and proposals, as well as building and grading permit applications, to assure compliance with County Land Development Regulations and Comprehensive Plan; tasks include pre-application conferences, and staff report preparation for the general public, public officials, and other government agencies.
  • Prepares staff reports and provides technical recommendations during public hearings to the Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners.
  • Utilizes the County Geographic Information System (GIS) to analyze and project land use trends to assist in current planning and long-range planning projects; provides research and administrative support to other Planning and Building staff.
  • Researches policy issues, and prepares and presents text amendments to the Land Development Regulations for presentation to the Planning Commission and the Board of County Commissioners
  • Supports the relationship between Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, or related field; Master's Degree in related field preferred.
  • Up to 1 year of experience with community development and planning programs.
