Job summary

McLarens in the United States is seeking a qualified U.S. attorney to provide legal advice and commercial support across U.S. operations. You will work with business leaders, HR, Finance, and global colleagues to mitigate risk and ensure regulatory compliance.

Initially you will work closely with the Group General Counsel, with increasing responsibility over time to manage matters independently while coordinating with external counsel as needed.

Qualifications

• Active U.S. bar membership required.
• 1–2 years legal experience in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience in insurance, claims, or professional services is highly desirable.
• Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
• Working knowledge of employment law and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day U.S. legal advice to business units.
• Support contractual matters with Group General Counsel.
• Identify legal risks and provide practical, commercially focused solutions.
• Assist with due diligence, post-acquisition integration, and governance docs.
• Collaborate with HR, Finance, IT, and Operations to promote compliance.
• Manage disputes and coordinate with external counsel as needed.

Job description

The successful candidate will provide legal advice and commercial support across McLarens’ U.S. operations, advising on a broad range of legal, regulatory, and commercial matters. This role partners closely with business leaders, HR, Finance, and global legal colleagues to mitigate risk, ensure compliance, and support the company’s growth strategy but always consulting with the Group General Counsel. The job holder will also assist in global legal matters.
This is a role that should grow with experience – initially working very closely with the Group General Counsel but as experience develops, the role will assume increasing responsibility for managing legal matters independently while continuing to collaborate with and report to Group General Counsel and other legal colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Advisory

• Provide, with the Group General Counsel, day-to-day legal advice to business units on U.S. laws and regulations
• Support operational teams on contractual matters with the Group General Counsel
• Identify legal risks and provide practical, commercially focused solutions.

Contracts & Commercial Support

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements (vendor, client, NDA, services agreements) initially under supervision
• Ensure consistency with McLarens’ global legal and compliance standards
• Develop standard contract templates?
• Assist with the management of the legal document system

Mergers and Acquisitions (Americas)

• Support acquisitions from legal due diligence through completion.
• Assist with post-acquisition integration.
• Coordinate with the Group General Counsel with external counsel.
• Prepare corporate governance documentation.
• Maintain corporate records where required.

Regulatory & Compliance

• Advise on U.S. regulatory requirements impacting claims, and service operations
• Support implementation of global policies and ensure local compliance
• Partner with the Global Compliance function led by Liz Tubb

Employment & HR Legal Support

• Working at all times with the Group General Counsel provide guidance on employment law matters, i, restrictive covenants, disputes, terminations, and investigations
• Support HR on policy development and risk mitigation

Disputes & Litigation

• Manage or support external counsel on disputes, claims, or litigation matters
• Manage the subpoenas that are served on the business
• Assist with investigations and internal reviews

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with HR, Finance, IT, and Operations leaders
• Promote legal and compliance awareness through the business
• Support global initiatives and projects as needed

Qualifications & Experience

• Qualified U.S. attorney (active bar membership required)
• 1 -2 years legal experience required
• Experience in a fast-paced, dynamic commercial environment
• Ability to management competing priorities and deliver to timelines
• Experience in insurance, claims, or professional services highly desirable
• Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills
• Working knowledge of employment law and regulatory compliance
