Job description

An Amwins Company

Associate Underwriter: Description & Duties

Underwriting Associates support our underwriting functions and staff by applying their understanding of risk evaluation. They act as the ‘first line’ of risk review by performing initial analysis of data and exposure.

Responsibilities include organizing incoming submission data for underwriters, alerting to any ‘red flags’ (e.g., recommending decline based on Risksmith appetite), supporting documentation and file management protocols, gathering and entering risk information into quote and pricing tools, and evaluating loss and coverage for the underwriter.

They support the underwriter and agent/broker with highly responsive service by managing the workflow of moderate to complex account work from clearance through policy issuance and file documentation. Additionally, they act as key liaison to Operations for business process creation, improvement, and automation design efforts.

To The Qualified Candidate We Offer

  • Compensation includes a salary commensurate with experience
  • Full benefit package including Medical, Dental, Life, Disability, and 401(k)
  • Collaborative, continuing education-focused work environment
  • Opportunity for advancement
  • Opportunity for formal sales and leadership training
  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO)

Associate Underwriter Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of commercial property experience, with Inland Marine experience preferred

New & Renewal Submission Prep

  • Review upcoming in-force renewal list within a 120-day window
  • Collaborate with Underwriter on renewal plans, such as ‘quick’ rollover renewals, re-underwrite, non-renew, renewal solicitation emails, etc.
  • Send declinations on new business risks that are ineligible due to class or size, ensuring declinations are recorded in the appropriate systems (DMS, ALIS)
  • Triage incoming renewal submissions: verify SOV, identify anomalies/errors and missing information, and correspond with brokers to resolve issues
  • Format SOVs for Geocoding and SpatialKey import
  • Begin account summary process; enter data into OctoCapp/CapApp as needed

Endorsements And Service Requests

  • Assess and confirm specific actions with underwriters, acting within authority guidelines
  • Calculate APs and RPs, then hand off to Risk Analysts for processing service requests
  • Deconstruct complex requests, ensuring full understanding of the request and approach to resolution
  • Seize opportunities to train RAs on the thought process behind UA work
  • Review and issue policy forms
  • Conduct weekly meetings with underwriters to review outstanding items
