Job summary

Kennedy Jenks Consultants in Federal Way, WA, seeks an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer with 5-8 years of experience to design and implement control systems for water and wastewater projects. You will develop control strategies, layouts,SCADA architectures, and P&IDs, working with electrical, process, mechanical, and civil engineers to deliver integrated solutions.

The role emphasizes QA/QC, cost estimation, and construction support.

Qualifications

  • 5-8 years in instrumentation and controls engineering, preferably in water, wastewater, or industrial infrastructure projects.
  • Experience designing instrumentation and control systems for pump stations or treatment facilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical engineering or related field; PE preferred; ability to obtain licensure within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for water, wastewater, recycled water, and industrial projects.
  • Develop control strategies, instrumentation layouts, network architectures, and SCADA system designs for facilities and pump stations.
  • Prepare and review control narratives, P&IDs, instrumentation specifications, I/O lists, and architecture diagrams.
  • Collaborate with electrical, process, mechanical, and civil engineers to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Support planning studies, condition assessments, and engineering reports related to automation and controls systems.
  • Develop project cost estimates and support scope development; coordinate with clients, system integrators, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews and contribute to engineering standards and best practices; mentor junior engineers.
