Job summary

Motlow College Athens campus is seeking a Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technology Associate Instructor to join the TCAT Athens program. This full-time role requires a minimum 37.5 hours per week on the Main Campus in Athens, TN.

The position focuses on educating students in HVAC/R theory and hands-on applications. The ideal candidate will hold a technical diploma or equivalent with related credentials, and have several years of HVAC/R experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of HVAC/R industry experience in last five years.
  • Must know residential and commercial HVAC/R installation and service.
  • Teaching ability and willingness to interact with students.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate classroom instructional process and monitor student progress.
  • Assign grades, maintain attendance, and advise students on goals.
  • Develop instructional materials and update course syllabi.
  • Remain current in HVAC/R field and participate in professional development.
  • Support accreditation, assessment, and college processes.
  • Assist in recruitment and campus activities.

Job Summary

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technology Associate Instructor, Full Time

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Athens is accepting applications for the position of full-time Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technology Associate Instructor to be located at the Main Campus in Athens, TN. This position will work a minimum of 37.5 hours a week.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Technical diploma in instructional area or equivalent higher education with credentials in related field. Associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years of successful work experience as an HVAC/R Technician in industrial, residential, and/or commercial HVAC systems within the last five years.
  • Must possess a high degree of knowledge in all phases of residential and commercial HVAC/R systems to include the installation and service.
  • Must possess the organizational and communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher and to interact with high school and adult students.
  • Evidence of ability to teach students. Teaching experience is preferred.

  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships with students, colleges, business and industry, faculty, staff and the general public.
  • Must possess effective oral and written communication skills to accurately convey information and to effectively present information.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Must have ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs, audio/visual equipment and software.

Job Duties
  • Instruction: Facilitate the classroom instructional process: evaluate and monitor student progress; assign grades; provide academic assistance to students; maintain attendance and grade records; counsel and advise students on career goals; work to retain students; maintain required classroom and office hours.
  • Course and Curriculum Development: Select texts, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources; participate in the purchase of needed program supplies and equipment; develop instructional materials; create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed; maintain updated course syllabi.
  • Professional Development: Remain current within instructional field and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college and division professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations; participate in the annual faculty evaluation process.
  • Service to Students: Comply with FERPA laws; participate in advising, recruitment, admissions, and orientation of potential students; assist students with job placement; support student activities including SkillsUSA and NTHS.
  • Service to the College and Community: Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned;

participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes; support and participate in the College’s decision-making processes; provide input and assistance with budgets; attend graduation exercises and participate in mandatory college programs; develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues; maintain an active program advisory committee; work to meet and exceed COE benchmarks for student completion and placement.

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or administration, on and off campus.
