Job summary

Schneider National, Inc. in Green Bay, WI seeks an Associate General Counsel focused on Labor and Employment to provide strategic legal advice to leaders and shape practical business solutions.

You will review facts, identify risks, draft and negotiate contracts, oversee compliance with federal and state laws, and collaborate with multiple departments. In-house experience and a JD from an accredited school are required.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Law.
• Admitted to practice law in Wisconsin.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience as a practicing lawyer.
• Prior in-house experience preferred.
• Background in transportation, human resources, finance, accounting, or a heavily regulated industry preferred.
• Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize a wide variety of tasks.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Can meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Formulate and test hypotheses drawn from limited evidence to identify and recommend solutions.
• Monitor matters with legal implications for consistency with company and operating guidelines.
• Simplify and communicate legal matters and analyses to business leaders.
• Work with various departments to facilitate compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Draft and negotiate business contracts, such as carrier transportation and logistics contracts, cross-border contracts, and computer software contracts.
• Assist with acquisition or divestiture negotiations, property transactions, and contract proposals.
• Focus on employment and labor law, anticipate and mitigate legal risk, respond to agency charges, research and track updates to labor laws, and collaborate with internal and external practitioners.
• Engage with executive and senior leadership, providing advice and defense under federal and state employment laws.
• Report to the EVP/General Counsel.
• Provide engaging legal education and training for the company.
