Job summary

Layton Construction is seeking an Associate Estimator to prepare estimates for diverse projects, support cost accuracy with the project team, and assist senior estimators and managers in estimating tasks.

The role covers quantity take-offs, bid preparation, reading plans, and coordinating with subs and suppliers to price information, with design-build and hard-bid exposure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction management or equivalent experience.
• Familiar with estimator software and design/construction tools.
• Experience with take-offs, bid preparation, and subcontractor coordination.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint; strong written/verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Prepare estimates for diverse projects and support cost accuracy with the team.
• Assist other estimators and managers in estimating tasks and bid analyses.
• Read contract documents and perform quantity take-offs and pricing.
• Solicit bids from subs and suppliers and clarify pricing information.
• Prepare estimate formats and assist with bid proposals and schedules.

An Associate Estimator prepares estimates for various projects, shares responsibility for cost accuracy with project team and assists other estimators and managers in all types of estimating tasks.

Duties

• Champions “The Layton Way” by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
• Ensures that “Constructing with Integrity” is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
• Assists other in preparing estimates for potential projects, using hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating.
• Reads and understands contract documents (plans, specifications & addenda).
• Performs quantity take-offs, organizes and prices information.
• Solicits bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Communicates with subs and suppliers to clarify pricing information.
• Prepares estimate formats in such areas as general conditions, general bidding, quantity takeoffs and bid analysis.
• Assists with the preparation of bid proposal for submittal.
• Prepares outline schedules for proposed projects.
• Assists staff members with various special projects related to estimating.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• Preferred working knowledge of Destini Estimator software, BlueBeam, Assemble, and other latest software and technology.
• Preferred working knowledge of On Screen Take-off
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Work, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to operate office equipment, such as computer, printer, phone, copier, fax, etc.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Appropriate knowledge of construction practices and methods.
• Working knowledge of Revit and Primavera systems preferred.
