Job summary

Layton Construction seeks an Associate Estimator to prepare estimates for diverse projects, supporting cost accuracy with the project team. You will read contracts, perform quantity take-offs, and help prepare bid proposals for submittal.

Ideal candidates will assist staff on special estimating projects and coordinate with subs, suppliers, and internal teams while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of estimating software and MS Office applications.
  • Ability to read contracts, plans, and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare estimates for projects using hard-bid, design-build and conceptual methods.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and price information for bids.
  • Solicit bids from subcontractors and suppliers and clarify pricing.
  • Prepare bid formats and assist with bid submissions.
  • Develop outline project schedules and coordinate with teams.

JOB DESCRIPTION

An Associate Estimator prepares estimates for various projects, shares responsibility for cost accuracy with project team and assists other estimators and managers in all types of estimating tasks.

Duties
  • Champions “The Layton Way” by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
  • Ensures that “Constructing with Integrity” is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
  • Assists others in preparing estimates for potential projects, using hard‑bid, design‑build and conceptual estimating.
  • Reads and understands contract documents (plans, specifications & addenda).
  • Performs quantity take‑offs, organizes and prices information.
  • Solicits bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Communicates with subs and suppliers to clarify pricing information.
  • Prepares estimate formats in such areas as general conditions, general bidding, quantity takeoffs and bid analysis.
  • Assists with the preparation of bid proposal for submittal.
  • Prepares outline schedules for proposed projects.
  • Assists staff members with various special projects related to estimating.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Preferred working knowledge of Destini Estimator software, BlueBeam, Assemble, and other latest software and technology.
  • Preferred working knowledge of On Screen Take‑off.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to operate office equipment, such as computer, printer, phone, copier, fax, etc.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Appropriate knowledge of construction practices and methods.
  • Working knowledge of Revit and Primavera systems preferred.
