Job summary

STO Building Group is seeking an Associate Estimator to prepare estimates for diverse construction projects. You will share responsibility for cost accuracy with the project team and assist other estimators and managers in all estimating tasks, including read of contract documents and take-offs.

The role requires preparing estimates using hard-bid, design-build, and conceptual methods, interfacing with subs, and assisting with bid proposals and schedules.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management or equivalent
  • Experience with estimating software such as Destini Estimator and design tools is preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to read contracts, plans, specifications and addenda
  • Strong communication and time-management skills

Responsibilities

  • Prepare estimates for projects using hard-bid, design-build, and conceptual estimating methods
  • Read and understand contract documents, specs, and addenda
  • Perform quantity take-offs, organize and price information
  • Solicit bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers
  • Prepare bid proposals and outline project schedules
  • Assist staff on special estimating projects

An Associate Estimator prepares estimates for various projects, shares responsibility for cost accuracy with project team and assists other estimators and managers in all types of estimating tasks.

Duties
  • Champions “The Layton Way” by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
  • Ensures that “Constructing with Integrity” is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
  • Assists other in preparing estimates for potential projects, using hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating.
  • Reads and understands contract documents (plans, specifications & addenda).
  • Performs quantity take-offs, organizes and prices information.
  • Solicits bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Communicates with subs and suppliers to clarify pricing information.
  • Prepares estimate formats in such areas as general conditions, general bidding, quantity takeoffs and bid analysis.
  • Assists with the preparation of bid proposal for submittal.
  • Prepares outline schedules for proposed projects.
  • Assists staff members with various special projects related to estimating.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Preferred working knowledge of Destini Estimator software, BlueBeam, Assemble, and other latest software and technology.
  • Preferred working knowledge of On Screen Take-off
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Work, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to operate office equipment, such as computer, printer, phone, copier, fax, etc.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Appropriate knowledge of construction practices and methods.
  • Working knowledge of Revit and Primavera systems preferred.
