Job summary

Layton Construction is seeking an Associate Estimator to prepare estimates for diverse projects and support cost accuracy across project teams. You will assist estimators and managers in all estimation tasks, reading contracts, performing take-offs, and sourcing bids from subs and suppliers.

Ideal candidates hold a civil engineering or construction management background, with knowledge of Destini Estimator, BlueBeam, and On Screen Take-off.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management or equivalent experience.
• Experience with estimating tasks across hard-bid, design-build and conceptual methods preferred.
• Proficiency in Destini Estimator, BlueBeam, Assemble and related software a plus.
• Familiarity with On Screen Take-off and MS Office suite is expected.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for project coordination.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing estimates for various projects and support cost accuracy with the team.
• Develop estimates using hard-bid, design-build and conceptual methods.
• Read and interpret contract documents, plans, specs, and addenda.
• Perform quantity take-offs, organize and price information.
• Solicit bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers and clarify pricing.
• Prepare estimate formats including general conditions, bidding, takeoffs and bid analysis.
• Assist with bid proposal preparation and outline schedules for projects.
• Support staff on special estimating projects as needed.

Duties

• Champions “The Layton Way” by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
• Ensures that “Constructing with Integrity” is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
• Assists other in preparing estimates for potential projects, using hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating.
• Reads and understands contract documents (plans, specifications & addenda).
• Performs quantity take-offs, organizes and prices information.
• Solicits bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Communicates with subs and suppliers to clarify pricing information.
• Prepares estimate formats in such areas as general conditions, general bidding, quantity takeoffs and bid analysis.
• Assists with the preparation of bid proposal for submittal.
• Prepares outline schedules for proposed projects.
• Assists staff members with various special projects related to estimating.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• Preferred working knowledge of Destini Estimator software, BlueBeam, Assemble, and other latest software and technology.
• Preferred working knowledge of On Screen Take-off
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Work, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to operate office equipment, such as computer, printer, phone, copier, fax, etc.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Appropriate knowledge of construction practices and methods.
• Working knowledge of Revit and Primavera systems preferred.
