Job summary

The City of San José Environmental Services Department is seeking an Associate Engineer for the Water Resources Division, South Bay Water Recycling section. This role focuses on system operations, design, construction, and maintenance of the SBWR network, including conservation efforts and capital improvement projects.

Ideal candidates bring a Civil/Mechanical background, 3+ years of professional engineering experience, and an engineer-in-training or higher credential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering required.
• Three years of professional engineering experience required.
• EIT certificate or Master’s degree substitution accepted.
• Valid California driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare engineering plans, schedules, cost estimates, and construction documents.
• Supervise staff and manage project assignments and evaluations.
• Coordinate agreements with consultants, contractors, and laboratories.
• Respond to inquiries from public, developers, and management about projects.
• Provide design support during construction and review RFIs.
