Job summary

Nevada Department of Transportation's Environmental Division - Stormwater Program is hiring for an Associate Engineer role based in Carson City, NV. The incumbent will assist with implementing the Stormwater Management Program and securing water quality permits in support of NDOT operations.

The position emphasizes field reviews, data management, and collaboration with Maintenance, Construction, Hydraulics and Design divisions to ensure statewide compliance with water quality regulations.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field; licensure not required, but engineer-in-training or board certification may apply.
• Assists in design, analysis, and inspection of transportation projects and water quality compliance.
• Prepare reports, review applications, and coordinate with divisions.

Responsibilities

• Participate in planning, design, analysis and inspection of construction and maintenance of transportation and highway systems, bridges, and other structures.
• Design and analyze traffic systems including traffic signal systems, highway lighting systems, traffic striping detail and overhead traffic sign support structures.
• Perform technical and statutory review of water right applications; assist in hearings and draft rulings; assist in administering water rights including allocation, inventories and distribution.
• Provide water quality clearance for highway projects including reports for environmental statements and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Review applications, oversee inspections, and recommend enforcement for facilities governed by environmental regulations; review designs and remediation projects.
• Identify bridges and map locations for future scheduling; participate in on-site inspections to collect data and prepare final inspection reports.
• Conduct on-site highway construction inspections to ensure adherence to specifications and prepare final CEMMS reports.
