You will design and document electrical systems across varied project types, expand skills in engineering, project management, and client engagement, with hands-on design tasks and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Electrical or Architectural Engineering or related field.
  • 1-3 years post-education electrical engineering experience.
  • Proficient with design, documentation, and building energy systems.
  • Experience with Revit and AutoCAD for design deliverables.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and document electrical systems across varied project types.
  • Develop electrical calculations for loads, feeders, and voltage drop.
  • Create construction drawings using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to meet client goals.
  • Support senior engineers with design and documentation development.
  • Prepare technical reports and field investigations summaries.
  • Contribute to sustainable design focusing on energy efficiency and resiliency.
  • Assist with site visits, RFI responses, and progress meetings.

Job description

WSP is currently recruiting a full‑time Electrical Engineer to join our growing Property & Buildings team in Honolulu, HI. The ideal candidate will have a background in building electrical design, energy conservation, resiliency, and a thorough understanding of electrical systems. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with experienced professionals to meet client objectives and solve complex problems are essential.

In this role you will design and document electrical systems across a wide variety of project types and market sectors, expanding your skills in engineering, project management, and client engagement.

Your Impact
  • Perform electrical engineering design tasks for power systems, electrical distribution, indoor/outdoor lighting, grounding, lightning protection, and systems such as communications, access control, security, IT, and fire alarm in accordance with codes, standards, construction practices, and client goals.
  • Under minimal supervision, develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, feeder sizing, voltage drop, grounding, lighting circuits and controls, facility and electrical service, and power distribution.
  • Develop electrical designs for buildings in residential, commercial, hospitality, industrial, civic, and healthcare sectors.
  • Participate in sustainable design projects focused on energy efficiency, resiliency, and future‑proofed infrastructure.
  • Produce designs and develop construction drawings with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Support senior engineers and project managers with design and documentation development.
  • Prepare technical reports summarizing designs and field investigations.
  • Collaborate in‑person and remotely with multidisciplinary design teams to execute projects.
  • Support construction activities such as reviewing shop drawings, responding to contractor RFI, participating in progress meetings, and conducting site visits.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to entry‑level engineers.
  • Grow professional networks through local industry organizations, events, and technical committees.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of post‑education experience in electrical engineering.
  • Proficient with electrical engineering principles, practices, processes, and design/build application to project work.
  • Intermediate knowledge of building, electrical, and energy codes.
  • Experience developing high‑quality design documents and deliverables using Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Proficient with technical writing, load calculations, discipline‑specific design software, industry‑standard technology, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills, expressing ideas effectively to engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
  • Self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project demands.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or eligibility for licensure.
  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Additional industry‑specific certifications or registrations (e.g., LEED AP, DBIA).
  • Active membership or participation in local professional practice organizations.
  • Flexibility to work and travel outside normal business hours as required.
