Job summary

WSP is seeking a Lead Consultant, Electrical Engineer for its New York City team. In this role you will participate in large capital projects within the Properties & Buildings Team, delivering design and coordination from concept through construction close-out.

You'll apply expertise in electrical systems design, including power, lighting, and life-safety, and collaborate with architects, owners, and managers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 7–10 years design experience on large capital projects.
  • Strong knowledge of low and medium voltage systems and code compliance.
  • Experience with construction administration and field support.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SKM, ETAP and MS Office.
  • PE license and LEED certification are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare deliverables including calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Oversee all aspects of projects and set deadlines.
  • Design electrical systems: power, lighting, security, fire alarm.
  • Attend meetings with architects, owners, and building managers.
  • Develop project specifications and assist in business development.
  • Mentor junior team members and support QA/QC processes.
  • Keep knowledge up to date and pursue certifications as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

We are a global leader in the practice of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering and related specialty services for the built environment.

We work closely with architects and owners from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment. Our Engineers work on high quality, high-profile, national and international projects. You will actively participate in the full project cycle, from the design phase through the final construction close-out. WSP offers excellent growth opportunities.

Your Impact
  • Prepare basic deliverables and products including calculations, drawings, and specifications
  • Oversee all aspects of projects
  • Set deadlines and assign responsibilities
  • Examine field conditions as required to support development and completion of projects
  • Design building electrical systems including power, lighting, communication, security systems and fire alarm while adhering to the firm’s QA/QC process
  • Develop project specifications
  • Attend meetings with architects, owners and building managers to discuss future and/or current projects
  • Assure meeting the client’s project goals and objectives
  • Assist in business development by pursuing new work including participation in client presentations
  • Assist in the firm’s human resource efforts through training and mentoring junior firm members
  • Enhance the firm’s reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing internal and external client requests
  • Demonstrate core values and serve as a role model/mentor to all firm members
  • Update job knowledge and technical expertise by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, participating in technical organizations and obtaining certifications in area of expertise and participating in the firm’s Technical Committee as requested
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post‑education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for large capital projects.
  • Knowledge of both low voltage and medium voltage electrical systems design and construction.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and interpretation of code compliance requirements and industry standards.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, decision making and analytical skills.
  • Experience in construction administration and technical field assistance.
  • Possess strong verbal, written, analytical, persuasive and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to consistently set goals and meet deadlines and adapt to flexible responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit software.
  • Working understanding of SKM and ETAP electrical studies software.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Experience with Horizon or Project Resource Management software is preferred.
  • Ability to meet and exceed client expectations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PE license is preferred.
  • LEED certification is preferred.
  • Certifications in areas of expertise are preferred.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $122,000-185,000

WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
