ASSOCIATE EDUCATOR FOR ADULT & COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
The Associate Educator for Adult & Community Programs engages a broad audience with welcoming and innovative public programs that support meaningful connections with art and the intersection of art and nature. With an emphasis on adult, college, teen and community audiences, this position develops and implements a range of programs including plein air days, art classes taught by local artists, and both in-person and online art programming and artist talks. The Associate Educator for Adult & Community Programs leads access initiatives and collaborates across departments and with community partners to create accessible and engaging experiences that support participation and belonging.
Position Relationships:
Building connections between art and the environment is integral to Brandywine's mission. The Associate Educator for Adult & Community Programs collaborates with Brandywine Conservancy staff to offer a rich array of multidisciplinary programs centered on the intersection of art and nature.
Reports To:
Reporting to the Director of Education and Engagement, this position is a key member of Brandywine's education team which is under the oversight of the Chief Impact Officer and includes the Associate Educator for School & Family Programs and the Public Engagement Coordinator, Conservancy Programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops and implements programs for all audiences, especially adults, college students and teens at the museum and Brandywine's properties, including its campus and its three historic properties.
- Develops and leads access initiatives for a variety of audiences, such as programs for people on the autism spectrum or with sensory processing differences, people with dementia and their care partners, people who are blind or have low vision, and people who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
- Collaborates with Museum and Conservancy staff to translate complex concepts into compelling public programs.
- Develops and maintains partnerships with community groups and cultural organizations through relevant programs and promotion of museum resources.
- Coordinates all aspects of the museum's summer internship program, including recruiting, supervising interns, and developing enrichment activities for the participants.
- Performs administrative tasks including program set-up, monitoring registration and attendance, evaluation, statistics, and program budget management to meet budget and revenue objectives.
- Assists with grant writing and contributes content and data for grant proposals and funder reports.
- Works with the Education and Engagement department on strategic planning and long-term engagement goals, including assessment of program outcomes.
- Assists with varied education programs and events, including evenings and weekends.
- Contributes to interpretive materials and engagement resources such as gallery guides, handouts, and digital resources, such as Bloomberg Connects.
- Develops and manages a portfolio of mission-aligned, fee-based programs that contribute to annual earned revenue goals, including identifying new opportunities and evaluating audience demand, recommending pricing and capacity, and expanding or modifying programs based on participation, impact, and revenue.
- Performs other duties, special projects, and cross-departmental assignments that are reasonably related to the position's purpose, level of responsibility, skills, and Brandywine's operational needs.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate degree in art history, art education or studio art or equivalent experience in an arts organization.
- Minimum of three years of experience planning and leading public programs in an art museum or arts organization.
- Knowledge and experience in coordinating access initiatives and programming for Museum visitors with disabilities.
- Collaborative team player with a genuine interest in people and a commitment to building relationships across departments and the community.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, creative environment with excellent attention to detail and strong project management skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and social media platforms. Knowledge of Zoom, Altru and Bloomberg Connects software helpful.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Ability to lift 30lbs.
- Transportation to and from the workplace and to outside sites as necessary.
SALARY RANGE: $53,000 - $55,000 full time non-exempt
Undergraduate degree in art history, art education or studio art or equivalent experience in an arts organization.
