Job summary

Skydance Animation is seeking an Associate Editor to join a dynamic team supporting one of our upcoming animated features. This position will work closely with our Lead Editor and requires a background in feature animation and AVID proficiency.

The incumbent will conform layouts, deliver first-pass edits with audio assets, and adapt sequences as story beats evolve. A bachelor’s degree and Local 700 membership are expected, with LA-area placement.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of editorial experience in feature film animation.
• Experience at Associate level on at least one animated feature.
• Advanced knowledge of AVID Media Composer.
• Understanding of animation pre-production, production and post-production processes.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Film, Digital Media, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Active Local 700 union membership.

Responsibilities

• Conform layout deliveries to existing animatic sequences, balancing pace of initial assembly with 3D realities.
• Deliver high quality first pass of edited picture and sound to Lead Editor, including temp sound effects, music, and dialogue.
• Assemble and modify constructed sequences to adapt to changing story beats and script revisions.
• Maintain, update, and hone sequences as they progress through production pipeline.
• Provide back-up to Lead Editor by running editorial and review sessions as needed.
• Attend editorial turnovers and take notes on special requests and issues.
• Attend screenings and take notes for reel updates.
• Support Post with marketing, franchise, and bonus content deliveries.

• Deliver high quality first pass of edited picture and sound to Lead Editor, including temp sound effects, music, and dialogue
• Assemble and modify constructed sequences to adapt to changing story beats and script revisions
• Maintain, update, and hone sequences as they progress through production pipeline
• Employ an advanced technical knowledge of AVID Media Composer and guide Assistant Editors through complex workflows as needed
• Provide back-up to Lead Editor by running editorial and review sessions as needed
• Tackle special editorial projects and presentations
• Attend editorial turnovers and take notes on special requests and issues
• Attend screenings and take notes for reel updates
• Support Post with marketing, franchise, and bonus content deliveries

• 6+ years’ editorial experience in feature film animation
• Experience at Associate-level through at least 1 animated feature
• Advance technical knowledge of AVID Media Composer
• Understanding of animation pre-production, production, and post production processes
• Bachelor’s Degree in Film, Digital Media, related field, or equivalent work experience
• Active membership in good standing with Local 700 union

The compensation range for this exempt, union position in Los Angeles, CA is $4,623.46-4,750.00/week. The rate offered may vary based on the candidate’s location, qualifications, experience and relevant expertise, among other factors. The range indicated is for base salary only and does not reflect the total compensation package, including bonus, benefits, etc.
