Position Overview

Title: Associate Division Head for Clinical Affairs (Associate or full Professor WOT)

Position Description

The Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Associate or full Professor without tenure due to funding (WOT), with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2027. Specific rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as generally described in UW’s Faculty Code Section 24-34 . We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community.

The successful candidate will serve as Associate Division Head of Clinical Affairs for the Division, overseeing clinical practice across all sites: Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington Medical Center Montlake & Northwest campuses, including Roosevelt Clinic, and VA Puget Sound Health System.

Some of the specific responsibilities of this position would include:

  • Leading section head meetings for the four rheumatology clinic sites (Harborview, UWMC-Roosevelt, UWMC-Northwest, and VAPSHS);
  • Mentoring early career physicians;
  • Supporting recruitment of physicians and support personnel for clinic sites;
  • Coordination of clinical programs, including creating the inpatient call schedule and monitoring outpatient clinic schedules;
  • Supporting the division administrator in monitoring wRVUs for physicians and addressing situations where physicians aren’t meeting targets;
  • Working alongside division leadership to balance clinical needs and scholarship/research needs for physician scientists in the division;
  • Work with division leadership on decision-making regarding changes to clinical programs;
  • Teaching residents/fellows as an attending, during didactics, and other educational events for the division.

All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.

This appointment would align with a 12-month service period (July 1–June 30), where faculty are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period. Associate and full professors hold indefinite appointments.

The base salary range for this position will be: $19,167 – $21,000 per month ($230,004 – $252,000 annually) for associate professor and $21,000 – $22,220 per month ($252,000 - $266,640 annually) for full professor, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice planmay provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

  • MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent
  • Board certification or eligibility (or foreign equivalent) in Rheumatology
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Washington
  • To be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non‑U.S,) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
