Job summary

Columbia University in the City of New York seeks an Associate Director of Investigations within the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) to lead inquiries into discrimination and discriminatory harassment under the Student Anti-Discrimination and Discriminatory Harassment Policy.

Reporting to the Director of Investigations, the Associate Director handles complaints involving students, faculty, staff and affiliates across protected classes.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of experience conducting investigations related to protected class discrimination and harassment in higher education or related field.
• Ability to interpret federal, state, and local equal opportunity laws and regulations.
• Strong organization, planning, analytic and problem-resolution abilities with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; multitask and meet timelines; maintain confidentiality.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary; writing sample required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct prompt and thorough investigations including witness interviews and documentation.
• Prepare detailed investigative reports to ensure a well-documented process.
• Coordinate with University offices to ensure compliance with laws.
• Maintain accurate investigatory files and provide updates to Directors of Investigations.
• Assist with campus training, reporting and outreach as assigned.
