Job summary

The Fidelity Foundations’ Conservation Program seeks an Associate Director to oversee and grow strategic grantmaking across multiple portfolios. Reporting to the Conservation Program Director, this senior manager will partner with the Director and Conservation Team to direct grant development, monitor impact, and ensure high-quality summaries for leadership and Trustees.

Qualifications

• At least 15 years in conservation-related work aligned with foundations’ strategies.
• Experience in philanthropy and with strategic grantmaking.
• Proven success in leading and developing teams and shaping a positive culture.
• Strong relationship-building and long-term professional relationship skills.
• Ability to translate complex information into clear written previews and recommendations.
• Analytical skills for due diligence and drawing sound conclusions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for internal and external audiences.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-moving, complex environment.
• Sound judgment, integrity, humility, and respect for confidentiality.
• Strong service orientation.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage strategic grantmaking across multiple portfolios.
• Directly manage program officers and ensure high-quality grantmaking.
• Ensure accurate, clear senior management summaries and Trustee communications.
• Monitor grant effectiveness and maintain data in the grants management system.
• Partner with colleagues to deepen or expand conservation focus areas.
• Support planning, goal setting, and team development with the Director.
• Build relationships with practitioners, funders, and conservation experts.
• Foster a collaborative team culture and mentor staff.
