Job description

The Broad Institute stands on the leading edge of biomedical research, with a mission to broadly disseminate discoveries and information to the scientific community to propel the understanding and treatment of disease. To achieve these goals, the Broad Institute has partnered with the Danish research community through the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) Center for Genomic Mechanisms of Disease at the Broad Institute. This partnership will launch cutting-edge projects to turn genomic data into mechanistic insights and lay the foundation for rationally designed medicines. The center is built around scientific projects and transatlantic collaborations at a scale beyond typical academic collaborations. We seek an energetic, experienced scientist to serve as Associate Director of Strategic Operations & Partnerships.

The Associate Director of Strategic Operations & Partnerships will work with the center director, Kasper Lage, AD of Program Management & Strategic Operations, Jeff Gaulin, and the center PIs to execute fiercely ambitious science in the areas of genomics and data sciences. You will also use these projects to establish a seamless collaborative bridge between Danish research communities and members of the Broad Institute. You will be the main connector between numerous groups working at the Broad and in Denmark.

You will co-lead scientific operations at the Broad Institute. You will work closely with the Center leadership to develop the overall research strategy for the Center, launch new projects as the collaboration progresses, and monitor the progression of the joint scientific portfolio. Your work will include proactively identifying and solving operational and logistical roadblocks across multiple projects, tracking and monitoring budgets, informing and ensuring timelines, reporting results, and breaking defined scientific projects into concrete milestones that will serve as decision points for whether to continue or discontinue the project. You will be expected to proactively ensure contractual obligations are met and that the scientific deliverables are adhered to. As such, you will play a critical and central operational and strategic role and ensure the continued success of the center.

In a peer-to-peer partnership with AD of Program Management & Strategic Operations, Jeff Gaulin, the Associate Director of Strategic Operations & Partnerships will oversee scientific operations, support progression of the scientific portfolio in collaboration with the Managing Director, Scientific Associate Directors, the project management team and individual project leaders. You will develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders within the Broad, the Development Office, the Office of Strategic Alliances and Partnerships to ensure delivery of joint goals within this alliance. Some experience developing and maintaining close relationships with key stakeholders and building scientific teams is a large plus.

Overall Responsibilities
