Job summary

American University Washington College of Law seeks an Associate Director of Academic Advising to lead JD advising and shape the academic experience from matriculation to graduation. The Associate Director will coordinate and deliver all academic advising activities, ensuring students have access to targeted services.

The role reports to the Office of Academic Excellence and works closely with Registrar, Student Affairs, and Career & Professional Development.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor or equivalent.
• 4 - 6 years of relevant experience.
• Admission to the bar.
• Minimum 5 years of experience advising or mentoring law students and/or law graduates preferably in academic advising.

Responsibilities

• Lead the law school’s advising efforts and coordinate all academic advising activities for JD students.
• Develop best practices training materials for advisors based on the legal market, school initiatives, and offerings.
• Design, plan, schedule, and lead mandatory first-year Compass sessions.
• Support strategic counseling to improve students' academic skills for law school and bar exam preparation.
• Maintain understanding of JD student experiences and collaborate with relevant offices.
