Our client is a Boston-based real estate investment manager built on disciplined, hands‑on value creation in the U.S. middle market delivering durable returns for investors. Established as an independent firm in 2011 following its spin‑out from a global investment manager, the senior team brings 25+ years of experience investing through every phase of the economic and property market cycle, and a track record that has earned the repeat commitment of leading public pension plans, endowments, foundations and consultants. Across its series of value‑add funds, the firm has built a diversified national platform spanning industrial, multifamily, retail and office. The firm primarily targets investments of $25–100 million in gross property value and creates value through lease‑up, repositioning, recapitalization, management turnaround and development. As the firm enters its next chapter of growth, it is investing in the people who will carry its story to a broader base of institutional capital.
Position Description:
Our client is seeking an Associate Director, Investor Relations, to become a leading voice of the firm’s investment story in the institutional marketplace. This is a front‑line role for a storyteller with genuine investment fluency: someone who can translate strategy, portfolio performance and market conviction into a clear, credible and compelling narrative that resonates with pension plans, endowments, foundations and the consultants who advise them. Working closely with senior leadership and the acquisitions, asset management and accounting teams, the Associate Director will shape how Long Wharf’s funds are positioned and presented, from the first pitch book through annual meetings and ongoing reporting. The role also carries a meaningful seat at the table in product formation, helping develop the next generation of strategies and offerings as the firm expands its investor base. This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious investor relations professional to grow alongside a respected, established manager during a pivotal period of growth.
Primary Responsibilities:
Capital Formation & Marketing
- Own the development of marketing collateral, including pitch books, investment summaries, strategy pieces and research papers, crafting a clear, differentiated narrative around strategy, track record and market outlook.
- Translate complex investment strategy, portfolio activity and fund performance into concise, compelling messaging tailored to each investor and consultant audience.
- Contribute to drafting private placement memorandums for new fund offerings, ensuring the firm’s positioning is consistent, persuasive and precise.
- Lead thoughtful, high‑quality responses to RFPs and due diligence questionnaires from prospective investors and consultants.
- Partner with third‑party research providers to weave market research and data into presentations, thought leadership and offering documents.
Investor Engagement
- Serve as a trusted point of contact for existing limited partners and consultants while building new relationships that expand the firm’s institutional investor base.
- Develop unique, insight‑driven analysis that opens doors and initiates meaningful investor dialogue.
- Deliver timely, polished responses to ongoing investor and consultant information requests.
- Prepare materials for and actively participate in annual partner meetings, advisory committee meetings and client review meetings.
- Represent the firm at industry conferences and events, raising the firm’s profile in the marketplace.
- Partner with the acquisitions team to develop a deep working knowledge of the investment strategy, pipeline and closed acquisitions.
- Work alongside the asset management team to maintain a thorough understanding of the existing portfolio, including business plans, operating trends and debt characteristics.
- Collaborate with the accounting group to master all aspects of fund reporting, including historical and current performance, return attribution, and capital calls and distributions.
- Monitor the competitive landscape, including fund offerings, performance and investor appetite, and translate those insights into positioning recommendations.
- Help shape new product offerings and strategies, bringing the investor’s perspective to how the firm grows its platform.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics, marketing or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in the investment management industry; real estate investment management and investor relations experience strongly preferred.
- A natural storyteller with exceptional written and verbal communication skills and a proven ability to distill complex strategy into a compelling narrative.
- Confident, polished presence with institutional investors, consultants and senior leadership.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills paired with sound qualitative judgment; able to discuss fund performance and portfolio metrics with credibility.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
- Highly organized, with strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple deliverables and deadlines.
- Entrepreneurial and self‑directed, thriving both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Growth‑minded, with the desire to take on increasing responsibility as the firm expands.
- Compensation will be based on experience and include a bonus and benefits.
