We are currently seeking an IP Counsel for CAS (Connected Aviation Solutions) to support the broader Avionics and Mission Systems businesses.

This position requires a leading IP expert that is forward-thinking, drives to create new and innovative solutions, makes sound decisions, sets and implements strategies, communicates effectively with top leadership, and excels in solving highly complex problems. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Protecting Collins’ IP, transactional work, and client counseling.
  • Working in a hybrid role at our locations in Windsor Locks, CT, Cedar Rapids, IA, or Charlotte, NC, with remote options available.

What You Will Do:

  • Drive IP engagement within the CAS, AVI, and Mission System businesses.
  • Provide legal advice on IP matters, including patents, trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, and related disputes.
  • Negotiate and advise on IP agreements with customers, suppliers, and partners.
  • Develop and implement IP strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with engineers and supervise outside counsel on inventions, patent applications, and trade secrets protection.
  • Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Degree in STEM field with 12+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 10+ years.
  • U.S. citizenship and a Juris Doctor degree.
  • Bar admission in one or more U.S. states and registration to practice before the USPTO.
  • 5+ years of IP legal experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in aerospace, law firms, or in-house IP legal roles.
  • Experience in patent prosecution, transactions, litigation, and U.S. government contracts IP.
  • Engineering background is beneficial.

The salary range is $147,000 - $295,000, based on experience and other factors. RTX considers various factors when extending offers and provides a comprehensive benefits package.
