Summary
The Associate Director - Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive provides direct oversight of Nursing, Social Work, Chaplain, Sterile Processing, and Patient Centered Care Services. The incumbent will serve as Nurse Executive for this facility and its associated community-based outpatient clinics, responsible for the practice of nursing by all registered nurses, advanced practical nurses, and allied health staff (LPNs, NAs, etc.), regardless of line of authority.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- English Language Proficiency
- In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing (ACEN or CCNE at the time of completion).
- OR individuals in a master's level bridge program in nursing with coursework equivalent to a bachelor's degree may become registered prior to completing the program.
- Upon licensing, appointment can be temporary with subsequent permanent status after graduation.
- Foreign nursing graduates with current, unrestricted registration meet the graduation requirement; higher education requires degree validation.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a nurse in the U.S.
- Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception: for those without licensure but meet education requirements, temporary appointment possible while pursuing licensure.
- Education and Dimension criteria for Nurse V: Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) with 5 years of nursing experience, or related degrees with equivalent experience, or Doctoral degrees with 4 years of experience.
- Leadership, Business Acumen, Communication, Professional and Social Responsibility are key dimension requirements.
Physical Requirements:
- Visual acuity, hearing, speech, manual dexterity, and ability to work long periods standing or walking.
- Exposure to infected patients and contaminated materials; may need protective clothing.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and shift priorities.
- Compliance with annual health requirements and ability to drive government vehicles.
Duties
- Lead VA Greater Los Angeles Health Care System's patient care services for over 100,000 Veterans.
- Collaborate with healthcare executives on organizational mission and goals.
- Direct nursing activities and advocate for ethical practices.
- Develop resource strategies and mentor future leaders.
- Strategic planning, policy development, and quality improvement.
- Communicate healthcare trends and issues at various levels.
