Job summary

AbbVie is seeking a Principal Research Scientist I/II or Associate Director, Process Engineering in North Chicago, IL to drive drug product development from concept to commercial-ready processes. You will lead scale-up, troubleshoot complex processes, and mentor teams across the R&D Process Engineering function.

The role offers strategic technical leadership, hands-on process development, and collaboration with CMC and manufacturing partners to accelerate medicines to patients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in science-related field with several years of related work experience
• Masters or PharmD with substantial related work experience
• PhD with extensive related work experience
• Proven ability to innovate with a history of new or improved product releases
• Interacts well with diverse groups within function and with collaborators

Responsibilities

• Lead drug product manufacturing process early phase development for synthetic molecule development candidates
• Collaborate with development CMC teams to align processes with commercial manufacturing sites
• Provide technical leadership and, where applicable, oversee team members
• Drive development of technologies and innovations expanding formulation capabilities
• Shape department- and function-level strategy in partnership with senior leadership
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards
